The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety provides you with a wide understanding of Occupational health and safety issues and offers a range of qualification from introductory to professional level worldwide.
The NEBOSH IGC has an approach to risk management and to improve quality and quantity of people based on international standards and best practice, such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) code of practice.
The program is a 10-day certification and is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately on 02 additional exam days.
- Management of international health and safety (IGC1)
- Control of international workplace hazards (GC2)
- International health and safety practical application (GC3)
The assessment for units IGC1 and GC2 is done by conducting a two-hour written examination based on learnings. Each written examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All answer scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.IGC1 and GC2 examination is conducted on two different days.
GC3 is assessed on the basis of a two-hour practical examination that is conducted at the candidate’s official site at workplace. The candidate needs to take the practical assessment within 14 days of the written examination. The practical examination is internally assessed by the course provider and externally moderated by NEBOSH.

What will I gain by achieving the NEBOSH IGC qualification?
Holders of the International General Certificate are entitled to Associate Membership (AIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety has been accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). It sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 with 15 SCQF credit points.
