Assessment of the NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

The qualification is divided into four units, out of which three are assessed by written exams of 3 hours duration (i.e. Units IA, IB and IC). In addition, there is an assignment unit designed to test the student’s knowledge about the syllabus (Unit DNI).

Students will receive a unit certificate for each unit they have passed. On successful completion of all the units, delegates will receive the overall qualification diploma.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for the diploma qualification. However, students should remember that this is a professional level qualification, set at SCQF Level 10. Achievement of the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or direct equivalent before undertaking the International Diploma course is highly recommended.

Also, it is crucial that the students get an IELTS score of 7.0 or higher in the IELTS tests.

The lectures will focus on the challenging topics in the syllabus. In addition, exam questions will be reviewed in a live webinar classroom led by our qualified instructors and NEBOSH examiners.

Duration of the NEBOSH Diploma Course

Professional Recognition and SQA Accreditation

NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accreditation. It, therefore, sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 along with 15 SCQF credit points.


NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety meets the academic requirements to apply for:

  • Delegates of the NEBOSH International Diploma meet the entry requirements for Registered Membership (RMaPS) at the Association for Project Safety (APS).
  • Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH) at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This is the initial step to becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner as a recognised Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
  • Member status (MIIRSM) at the Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

Successful candidates are invited to the annual NEBOSH Graduation and Awards Ceremony in the year following the successful completion.

Examination Registration

Only the diploma students who have enrolled with NEBOSH are eligible to register for Diploma exams and assignments. Students must enrol before the deadline of the exam they wish to register for. Please contact our staff to confirm the closing date.

Examination Entry Confirmation

Once we have registered you for the NEBOSH Diploma exam, we will send you an examination entry confirmation which will include your student number. Kindly note that the student number is the only identification that you may use on your examination scripts. The scripts cannot include your name.

The Examination Entry Confirmation is necessary to gain entrance to the exam room. Furthermore, you will need to show some form of photographic identification to the invigilator and then sign the Examination Entry Confirmation.

Examination Results

Students will receive their results 12 weeks after their assessment date. In addition, students will receive their Unit DNI assignment results as follows:

  • November 2018 submissions by Friday 15 February 2019

The candidates who are successful in an individual unit will be rewarded with a Unit Certificate, generally within 20 working days of the result date. Note that the units are not graded so, the unit certificates will show a ‘Pass’ only.

Once the candidates have passed all 4 units, the diploma will be issued to them generally within 20 working days of the result date.

Examination Dates

Exams are held each year in the third week of January and July unless prior notice has been given. Papers for Units A, B and C are usually offered on the mornings of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively. The exam dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday 15 January 2019 – Unit IA
  • Wednesday 16 January 2019 – Unit IB
  • Thursday 17 January 2019 – Unit IC
  • Tuesday 16 July 2019 – Unit IA
  • Wednesday 17 July 2019 – Unit IB
  • Thursday 18 July 2019 – Unit IC

Assignment Submission Dates

DNI assignments must be submitted on the dates given below:

  • 27 February 2019
  • 29 May 2019
  • 28 August 2019
  • 27 November 2019
